Ranger Frustration PvP!!
Hello everyone just having trouble finding a good and NOTICABLE role for my R/E. First i tried the dmg dealer role looked pretty impresive BUT didnt really accomplish much (most of the time enemy players simply ran out of the AoE also most PvPers have good elementalist defences), So i changed tactics and got a few knockdown and interupt spells. This works great I can pretty much shut down the oposisions healer or caster (also kept 1 AoE for some major dmg), although this works great and I feel more effective I just cant do very much dmg and unless the team Im with ATM finally decides to attack the person Im on I just run out of energy and it was all for nothing (then i look like an idiot for running all over the map chassing the person around when he tries to shake me LOL).
Thinking of trying a R/Me seen it had better interupt spells @ better energy costs, but am wondering about the dmg ill be able to deal out. Also can we still do the quests to change our secondary skills after ascention?

im not sure how you started this character, but i have chosen a R/Ele, the shock sniper from the already made builts and then i customized its skills to fit my play style (as in putting skills i aqcuired with my PvE R/Mo). if i remember right there was a nice elite in the build called Marksman's Wager that gives you 6-10 energy (i think) with every hit. well, thats what i use...i start off with some normal skills (savage, power, debilitating shot etc.) then i cast the wager and shoot some more, and i almost never run out of energy, plus the wager ends almost at the time it finishes recharging. and although hes an elementalist, i dont bring any elementalist skill in play. only the ranger and rez sig.

I think you got it a bit wrong... a damage dealing ranger/elementalist wont be any good will all kinds of AoE spells with high energy cost... because ranger hasnt got the ammount of energy for that...
Damage dealing snipers (like me) are usually rangers that have an elementalist side to boost the damage they do with bow attacks... like the conjure...
If you use conjure (+preparation) + attack shot like penetrating attack or huntershot or something... and ur in a higher place (so you'll hit head, which does more damage) you can do massive damage to a person...
Just a few minutes ago in the arena i did about 150 damage and had him killed in 2 shots...
Next to that i use some support skills like blindning flash... though its crappy in PvE, making a warrior misses everytime he strikes for 5 seconds is awesome... or enervating charge which makes his attacks almost wasteless...

wow ghost, 150 damage ? dam, gotta try out that combo. Also, remember that a mesmer isnt always to suited to damage dealing- actually, suited to distracting more

Try using direct damage spells. The problem with most aoes is they require your targets to stand in a area for a length of time of the spell to do max damage and the ones that don't require you to be right next to the enemy. Since you have already choosen the ranger profession you will find that if you choose a single target (usually the one your teams target callers pings) and focus fire on that target with bow and direct damage spells you will be more effective.
Remember to use your head when choosing professions and skills. You want to use spells and skills that compliment each other.

It sounds like you're using the absolutely wrong type build.
If you're after AoE damage... you're probably better off with ignite arrows (your arrows explode for 10..15 damage at mid-high levels). Or Barrage (elite). Or using survival to drop traps defensively (around monks for example), or offensively... (few things will enamour you of the other team more than dropping 2-3 traps in the middle of a large group regularly).
If you wanted to be an Ele caster in the first place, you should have gone with ele primary. The ranger is a creature of the expertise/marksmanship requisite. There's no way around it, your marksmanship skills are worthless without at LEAST 9 ranks expertise. Preferably 12 to 14 expertise. If you go ranger primary be ready to be an archer first and foremost over all other things.
The only other reason to go ranger primary is more advanced... and that's to hide your secondary in a much tougher package (trade 1 pip of energy regen for armor).

Well, you are a Ranger with AoE's, and you said your tired of people running out of your AoE's. Simple fix: Trap them in and let the bodies it the flo'.

Well changed secondary to Mes and tactics to Energy stealing and interups done with spells and bow. Feel much more effective and I know im very anoying to the monks I target because about 1/2 way through the fight I now find myself facing the wrath of 2 or 3 enemy or sometimes the whole team LOL. Thx for the input everyone.
